After nine years of marriage, Frank’s
lost his way.
Unmotivated, dissatisfied, and fearing his best days are behind him, he contacts Izzy’s “The Listening Lez” for help.
As the series unfolds, Frank confronts issues he’s been avoiding, sows his wild oats, finds his footing, and grows into the best friend Izzy never knew she needed.
After an intense
breakup with longtime girlfriend, trish…
Izzy forms “The Listening Lez,” where she meets with clients (mostly cis straight men) and listens to them rant about their relationship issues.
Though somewhat cynical and emotionally guarded, her business model is flipped on its head when she meets Frank.
As the series unfolds, she’s inspired by Frank and other colorful clients to reveal more of herself. With a newfound confidence (at the age of 40), she starts dating again, and in the Gen Z-heavy bars of NYC, that’s bound to get dicey. And, of course, there’s still always Trish.
Dave adores his baby girl, Laura.
Her husband, Frank? Not so much.
And he never misses an opportunity to cut his son-in-law down a peg. Due to “circumstances outside his control,” he’s been living with Frank and Laura, rent-free, for the past three months.
As the series unfolds, Dave softens. When his daughter’s bisexuality is exposed, he becomes the biggest LGBTQ ally you’ll ever fucking meet. But after spending so much time with “the gays,” he starts to question his own sexuality and how that fits into who he’s always been.
Laura is
an enigma.
While a dutiful mother and a talented artist, she’s distant from her husband, Frank. Though never outright mean or abusive, she’s cold (let’s say lukewarm), and all she wants to do is spend the last two hours of her day rewatching Gilmore Girls…or so she says.
As the series unfolds, she continues to hide her affairs until they finally catch up with her. While her marriage implodes, her career soars–and that shiny, beautiful spotlight may be just the drug she’s been searching for.
Izzy’s ex with
“power lesbian” vibes.
Trish is working her way up the ladder at a prestigious law firm, while her fiancée, Kim, finishes residency in Brooklyn. Trish was the breadwinner in her relationship with Izzy and she never let Izzy forget it.
As the series unfolds, Trish grows restless in her committed relationship and longs for what she and Izzy once had.
phil and frank are bound by the debauchery of their college days.
Phil’s advice is the same shitty advice he’s been giving for Frank for 20 years, and they’re starting to grow apart.
As the series unfolds, Phil’s ignorance only intensifies. He meets with Izzy to untangle parenting and dating and never learns a damn thing. But he’s so ridiculous (think Border Collie puppy), you can’t help but scratch his back and say, “Good boy.”
The self-proclaimed best waiter at Cherry on Top, Gary will stop at nothing to make someone’s day a little brighter.
As the series unfolds, we see a different side of Gary. The veneer cracks after one too many setbacks, and it’s high time for “the nice guy” to finish first.
ruby works at the local plant store, where she’s soaked up every plant fact under the sun.
As intense with plants as she is with romance, Ruby’s spontaneous, perhaps hedonistic approach to sexuality offers a stark contrast to Frank’s marriage and highlights just how caught in the wind Izzy has become.
